Your brand is more important and more visible than ever in the age of mobile technology. Ignoring your image is not an option for success in this new economy.
In this newsletter, I want to move the focus to one of my favorite topics, social media. We will take a look at each platform in greater detail subsequent newsletters.
If you are reading this on LinkedIn, you are already realizing the benefit of social sharing. Social media is the new normal and will only continue to grow (rapidly).
My philosophy is simple: The Cloud + Social Media + Mobile = the New Winning Edge. Firms that Get It will thrive – others will fade away.
Why social media? It is where your clients and future clients hang out! If you are not nurturing your clients – someone else just might. As business advisors, you need to be in touch with key industry trends and social media may be the biggest marketing and engagement tool ever created for business..
So which social platform is right for your practice? In this issue, let’s take a look at a very high level. I’ll drill down in subsequent newsletters.
LinkedIn: the #1 B2B and B2C social platform on the net. It is all about business. It’s all about building a network of connections. It is all about sharing your expertise to let others grow. It is a great forum to tout your value-add and differentiate your firm. If you care to be seen as an industry expert and share industry-related news and information – LinkedIn is the place. It’s a must have social platform for all professionals.
Google+: This is Google’s social platform – Google+ is a silent social media Giant but not to be ignored. Google tied Google+ plus to your Google Places business listing – an active Google+ account will help your Google search. Befriend Google or your firm will never be found on an organic Google search. Go back and read my Google My Business tips to make this silent giant happy.
Facebook: I’m talking about Facebook for business here (aka, Facebook fan page) – keep your personal Facebook account just that – personal. Use your Facebook fan page to share: milestones about your firm, promote community events, promote your clients, staff promotions or new staff members, or promote new services. Pictures and videos work especially well. Many of the billion Facebook followers are on it everyday and use mobile a lot!
Twitter: #Newstravelsfast on Twitter. It has become a sounding board full of fact, fiction, and opinion. I use Twitter to follow industry mentors – I want to know what the leaders of the industry are thinking. I follow industry conference #hastags to get insights from the event – as good as being there. I also share pertinent industry information with my followers. Twitter followers are also on Twitter everyday. It’s a great medium to share and listen to your clients, They created the #hastag that is now used across all social media platforms.
Blog: I put the social power of the blog very high. Fresh content is still king for search engine optimization. Blogging is a great way to let readers know what you are thinking. You are sharing your musing one to many. Blogger (by Google) and WordPress get the best SEO. Publishing on the LinkedIn platform is very similar.

Yes there are many other social platforms to consider but start with the ones above. Combined they have the vast majority of market share today. IF I had to pick 2 it would be LinkedIn and Google+.
On face value all the above platforms are free to join but all require regular attention to make good use the platform. I’ll share many tips in subsequent newsletters on how to maximize your benefit and minimize your time. It is easier than you think.
When using multiple social platforms, learn how to use social dashboard dashboards like Hootsuite (my favorite go to social media tool).
Next Issue: LinkedIn – building your image.
In the mean time, best wishes for your greatest year ever. #GetConnected.
